The county's recreation plan
Confirmed: Dare County adopted a $56.9 million Parks & Recreation Recommendations & Implementation Plan, prepared by McGill & Associates. It's the blueprint we anchor our priorities to.
The referendum
Confirmed: A quarter-cent sales tax is on the November 3, 2026 ballot. If it passes, it would raise roughly $6.1 million a year dedicated to parks and recreation.
Advisory Council & meetings
Parks & Recreation Advisory Council, 2026 (6:00pm):
- September 3 — Lions Club, Manteo
- November 5 — Youth Center, Kill Devil Hills
Board of Commissioners: first Monday of each month, 9:00am, 954 Marshall C. Collins Dr, Manteo. There's a five-minute public comment period at the start, and meetings are livestreamed on the county's YouTube channel.
