Projects & Ideas
What we're working on now, and what we're dreaming up next. From new facilities to
better access to fresh program ideas, this is where the vision turns into a to-do list.
What we're working on
Pass the recreation referendum
Status: Active, vote is November 3, 2026.
On the ballot is a quarter-cent sales tax that would raise about $6.1 million a year for
parks and recreation across Dare County. It's the single biggest opportunity in a generation
to fund the facilities our surveys keep asking for.
How to help: Learn the facts on our
Transparency page, talk to your neighbors, and vote.
A pool for Dare County
Status: Advocacy and listening.
Pools rank as the number one recreation need in the county's own surveys. We're gathering
community input on what people would use and where.
How to help: Tell us how you and your family
would use a pool.
Connected trails and paths
Status: Idea gathering.
Safe ways to walk and bike between our towns, and trails to explore the natural Outer Banks.
How to help: Submit the routes and connections
you want to see.
